AODH RUADH

Congratulations to Peter Boyle and his senior county colleagues on booking their place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals against Dublin this Saturday.

Well done also to Nathan Boyle and Shane McGrath, plus Mick McGrath in the back room team on securing an All-Ireland minor semi-final berth. Nathan Boyle played the full game, while Shane McGrath came on and rattled home the goal which sealed the verdict in Donegal’s favour .

The minor footballers played Kilcar in the first round first leg game in the championship. Kilcar with the benefit of a following breeze, took the initiative racing into a 1-8 to 0-4 points with eight minutes to go to the interval. However, Aodh Ruadh finally found their rhythm and tagged on a valuable three points before the break to leave just four points between the sides at the turnover. Ballyshannon came out all guns blazing in the second half and within a minute Oisin Rooney had the ball in the back of the net to commence a 1-5 unanswered scoring streak for the hosts. Kilcar came back into things as injury saw the Ernesiders lose Conal Sweeney and Cáelán Drummond. The visitors even managed to edge a point ahead.

But Aodh Ruadh pulled the tie back level to leave it winner takes all when the sides meet at Towney in the second leg. Aodh Ruadh were once again well served by their county trio of Nathan Boyle, Shane McGrath and Oisin Rooney. However Sean Taylor was absolutely superb between the posts and was man of the match by common consensus.

Despite some good individual performances the Aodh Ruadh under 16s couldn’t surmount a more cohesive and determined Four Masters on Wednesday night in Father Tierney Park. Ballyshannon battled hard and took some nice scores from Evan McTernan, with Odhran McGarrigle also working hard to create opportunities, but the Donegal Town side’s scores just came that bit easier and they always held the advantage on the score board.

The under 14s had a tough contest against a physically larger Termon outfit in their county semi-final on Friday evening. Fielding without Senan Rooney, Shane Duffy and Cian Barden it was always likely to be a challenge for the Ballyshannon men, and so it proved when Termon went in at the break with a 5-8 to no score lead. The Ernesiders didn’t stop fighting though and with gutsy performances from the likes of Mark McGlynn, Eugene Doherty, Cian Rooney, Kyle Murray, Jake Foley and Matt Gillespie they won the second half with the game finishing at 7-12 to 3-2. Aodh Ruadh’s goals came from Mark McGlynn, Nathan Owens-Kelly and Kyle McCaffrey.

The under 8s took on Bundoran on Thursday evening in Father Tierney Park. and gave a great account of themselves. The Aodh Ruadh panel on the evening were Gareth Brennan, Sam Davitt, Manus Conlon, Anthony Duffy, Antoin Duffy, Eoghan (Blake) Gallagher, Eoghan Gallagher, James Gallagher, Joe Gibbions, Jack Gormley, Fionn Hartin, Iarla Hartin, Sean Maguire, Eoghan McCadden, Oisin McCadden, Darragh McCready, Shaun McGarrigle, Harry McGowan, Jayden McGrath-Clyne, Sean O’Neill, Max Roper, Daithi Sheerin and Corey Sheridan.

Congratulations to Donegal and Sarah Patton on reaching the All-Ireland quarter-finals following their victory over Galway in Longford on Bank Holiday Monday.

Aodh Ruadh’s senior hurling championship game scheduled for last Saturday with Burt was postponed.
