When Gigabyte launched its GeForce GTX 1060 line, the fastest model on offer at the time was theGTX 1060 G1 Gaming. We had a hunch the company wasn’t done yet, though, and today, Gigabyte quietly updated its website with a product page for the GTX 1060 Xtreme Gaming.
The new card uses a generous dose of copper in its heatsink and a pair of 100-mm, contra-rotating fans. That combo should keep the card cool even as it hangs out around its boost clock of 1873 MHz. In addition to the pumped-up boost clock, the GTX 1060 Xtreme Gaming also gets a significant overclock to its memory, up to 8.3 GT/sec in OC mode. As you might expect from such a hot-clocked piece of hardware, the card does require an 8-pin power connector.
As a unique feature within the 1060 line-up, Gigabyte mounts two front-facing HDMI ports to the Xtreme Gaming card that are enabled in a “VR mode.” The GTX 1060 Xtreme Gaming also supports Gigabyte’s VR-Link front-panel HDMI accessory, although that convenient extra isn’t included in the box. In standard mode, users can instead take advantage of a dual-link DVI port. In either case, the card has three DisplayPort 1.4 jacks, plus a rear-facing HDMI 2.0b port.
Visually, the card resembles other products in the Xtreme Gaming 10-series family. Those products usually include a black-and-silver shroud that frames the RGB LED-illuminated cross-brace in the center of the cooler. A thick metal backplate and a large RGB LED-backlit Xtreme Gaming logo wrap around the rest of the card. Gigabyte backs up its claims of durability with a four-year warranty on the GTX 1060 Xtreme Gaming.
