HTC Vive crowned gadget of the year at prestigious industry awards dubbed the ‘Oscars of tech’

Tech experts at T3 magazine have crowned the HTC Vive as 2016’s best gadget at their annual awards ceremony this evening.

The virtual reality headset picked up the award for Gadget of the Year, in association with EE, at the glittery bash in central London.

“VR has truly impacted in a big way, the connected home is becoming ever more commonplace, and the incredible strides technology is making have enabled 100 per cent battery-powered cars,” commented T3’s editor Rob Carney.

Launched in April, the HTC Vive comes with a pair of room-scanning cameras that mark out an interactive space in your room.

The futuristic goggles then let you physically walk around all manner of differentdigital gaming worlds and interact with them with a pair of motion-detecting controllers.

The other big winner of the night was Apple – which picked up the award for “Gadget of the Decade” for the iPhone.

“Apple’s iPhone is a more than worthy recipient of Gadget of the Decade – it paved the way for all modern smartphones,” said Carney.

The new award was presented to mark the 10th anniversary of the T3 awards and was voted for by T3’s readers.

Another notable winner of the evening was Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am who picked up the award for Tech Personality of the Year, in association with Digital Spy. Mr. I.am was at the event himself to receive the award.

Samsung won Brand of the Year while Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was given the award of “Tech Legend”.
