‘Kabali’ box office report: Record breaking collections from North India, US

After earning Rs. 70 crore on day one overall (with Rs 21 crore from south India itself), Rajinikanth starrer Kabali has been consistently doing well through the weekend.

While Kabali has beaten the box office records of Salman Khan’s Sultan, it has not managed to over power SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, which raked in Rs 50 crore on day one, reports Indian Express.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest film Kabali, which is receiving enormous response from audiences across India, has minted Rs 11.4 crore in two days in the north Indian market.

The Pa. Ranjith directorial, which collected Rs 5.2 crore on its opening day, witnessed a 20 per cent growth on its second day in the north Indian market where it collected Rs 6.2 crore on Saturday, thus taking its cumulative total of Rs 11.4 crore, read a official statement.

Meanwhile, Kabali has also been unstoppable at the North American box-office, raking in a whopping $3.5 million in just two days including the premieres.

“At $3.5 million, Kabali has emerged as the top grossing Tamil film and second highest south Indian grosser afterBaahubali. Despite mixed reviews, the film has done exceptionally well across all centres throughout North America,” Sanjay, co-founder of CineGalaxy Inc, told IANS.

Kabali has reportedly raked in over Rs. 150 crore worldwide in its opening weekend.

The Tamil film, which has been dubbed in other languages like Hindi, Telugu and Malay, witnessed a steady growth especially for the Hindi version. It released in 1000 screens in the north belt. Released in nearly 5000 screens worldwide, Kabali narrates the tale of a gangster’s shot at redemption and how he fights for equal pay rights for Tamils in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who was on a month-long US vacation along with his daughter Aishwarya Dhanush, returned to India on Sunday.

“Rajinikanth sir and his daughter Aishwarya returned to Chennai earlier this evening. He was welcomed by hordes of fans at the airport. From the first week of August, he will resume work on his Tamil film 2.o,” a source close to the 65-year old star told IANS.

As part of his vacation, the Enthiran actor is rumoured to have attended a detoxification program.
