Google’s latest Play distribution data shows that Froyo has dropped to below the 0.1 percent mark which basically means in sometime Froyo will be out of smartphones ‘completely’.
As per Google’s monthly distribution data, Android Gingerbread comes as the first in terms of oldest with 1 percent, while the Ice Cream Sandwich is the runner up in the oldest league. Google’s latest version, Android Nougat is slowly increasing with an overall distribution of 0.5%, on running devices which shows that the OS has a lot to catch up. Recently in January, it has split into Android 7.0 and 7.1 which combines up to 0.7 percent of active devices.
The date was collected from Android devices visiting Google Play in the seven-day period ending January 9.
OS Marshmallow has a total share of 29.6 percent of Android devices as compared to the 26.3 percent reported in December a total of 3.3 percent increase. Also, based on the latest data, Marshmallow continues to be the most used version.
KitKat follows with a total of 22.6 percent of devices compared to 24 percent last month (a decrease of 1.4 percent). Whereas, Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop combined have a total share of 33.4 percent of active Android devices (in the previous month it was 34 percent).
Android Jelly Bean has a combined share of 11.6 percent and Android Ice Cream Sandwich has a share of 1.1 percent (dropping from 12.8 percent and 1.2 percent respectively), according to latest data.
The two Nougat versions are expected to escalate in the upcoming months as most flagships with the update will make their debut around MWC 2017.
The latest OpenGL version distribution numbers saw OpenGL 2.0 at 40.9 percent, OpenGL version 3.0 at 42.2 percent and OpenGL version 3.1 at 16.9 percent.
