Orange Pi: 64-bit quad-core computer for $20

Just as desktops replaced computers that used to fill an entire room, and laptops, tablets, and smartphones have pushed desktops aside, single-board computers are now in a position where they can take over tasks from other devices.

And they’re cheap.

Orange Pi has a new single-board quad-core 64-bit computer capable of running Android 4.4, Ubuntu, Debian, Banana Pi, and Raspberry Pi images called the Orange Pi PC 2.

Here are the specs:

  • Quad-core 64-bit Cortex-A53
  • High-performance hexa-core Mali450 GPU
  • 1GB DDR3
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • HDMI with support for HDCP
  • Three USB 2.0 ports, one USB 2.0 OTG
  • IR receiver
  • Microphone

What you can get this board to do is pretty much only limited by your imagination. Turn it into a tiny computer, or a wireless router, or a wireless speaker, or even a remote weather station.
