.Skype is beginning the process of closing its office in London. Its London office contained developers who worked on Skype’s range of products and services, particularly so when the company itself was created in London in 2003. After Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype, the company delivered new offices to those employees in March 2013.
As part of the offices being closed, 400 of the employees who worked there are uncertain about their future. As reported by Windows Central, via Financial Times, Microsoft confirmed the office closure and explained that it is because of “decision to unify some engineering positions, potentially putting at risk a number of globally focused Skype and Yammer roles,” and that the employees affected are in a “consultation process,” while the spokesperson explained Microsoft’s current stance:
We are deeply committed to doing everything we can to help those impacted through the process
