On the eve of Eid, Pakistani kurtis fill the fashion scene with a touch of ethnic grace and colour
When designer Dimple Nahar set out to create a new line for monsoon, Eid was the first bright spot in the fashion calendar. “During the monsoon season, everything is dull and gloomy. With Eid festivities now, we wanted to add bright colours,” she smiles. On the eve of Eid, her latest collections of Pakistani kurtis fill the fashion scene with bright hues and can be also worn with neutral pants like palazzos and leggings. While Pakistani kurtis have been in vogue for some time, Ramzan ushers in fresh improvisations and experiments . When one says Pakistani dresses, the image of a long kurti with two long slits on the sides comes to mind. The Chinese collar and long sleeves bring in the elegant factor. Dimple says the Pakistani kurtis are a must for the wardrobe because of their multi-faceted use. “Pakistani kurtis are plain and in dark colours. The floral prints create a feminine look and one can mix and match.”
Elsewhere at Karachi House in Noor Nagar at Banjara Hills, there is a riot of ravishing colours and gorgeous attires including the Pakistani dresses. “The gota patti work in addition to the zardozi and lace work is the highlight. Lawn is another fabric mostly loved by all for its comfort and skin-friendly nature,” says Sameera Shaikh of the store. She adds that kurtis with minimal designs paired with cigarette pants and big dupattas are popular.
Another special feature is that youngsters also experiment with Pakistani kurtis and create a fusion look by wearing it over a long skirt or a legging and matching dupatta.
Fashion student Nidhi Arora plans to pair her Pakistani kurti with denims. She explains,“The regular way is to wear a Pakistani kurti and palazzos. The denim creates a sense of individuality and spunky look.”
Dimple speaks how Pakistani kurtis lend blend with any occasion. “For the Eid festivities, one can try Pakistani kurta with leggings and dupatta and create a churidaar kurta look. Complete the look with chand baalis, high heels and a fancy purse and automatically the look will be more Indo-western and you are ready to go to the Eid party,” she states.
With just a day to go for Eid, celebrations are in full swing. Fashion enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to as the month will be followed by an array of festivals and social occasions. Dimple concludes by saying these kurtas can create a different look for the upcoming wedding season too. “One can create a look by wearing a long cape kurta which are slided inside. Pair it with lehengas and one can create a stylish look.”
