IF YOU’RE STILL WAITING FOR Microsoft’s Windows 10 Anniversary Update to arrive on your PC you might have another two months to go.
While Microsoft has been keen to shove its main Windows 10 updates down PC users’ throats, it has not been so proactive about the rollout of the Anniversary Update.
The updating process began on 2 August, and some are still waiting for it to arrive. Turns out that you might be kept waiting another two months, according to Mary Jo Foley.
Microsoft did say that the Anniversary Update would be done in stages, but an email seen by Foley confirms that it will take three months to reach all users, which means that some might not get it until November.
“‘The Anniversary Update will download and install via Windows Update. The download is automatically available to you. It will begin rolling out on 2 August 2016 and may take up to three months to reach all users. Internet access fees may apply,’ said the footnote to the email I received on 1 September,” the email said.
She noted that Microsoft is throttling delivery of the Windows 10 Anniversary Updateso that the firm can keep tabs on what’s working and what’s not as the update rolls out to the many permutations and combinations of Windows machines on which it’s qualified to run.
Impatient Windows 10 users can force the update to install by using the Windows 10 Upgrade Tool. Oh, the irony.
We’d recommend waiting it out, though, as Microsoft’s Windows 10 Anniversary Update has been plagued by glitches since its launch last month.
Hundreds of people complained that the installation process caused their PC to freeze 20 seconds after booting up, while those who have managed to load the update have complained of SSD borkage and Linux subsystem problems, to name but two.
