Windows 10 Creators Update rollout begins today: Here are the top new features
Microsoft is finally set to ship the next iteration of its desktop operating system to its users. Called Creators Update, the free update will start rolling out globally on April 11. In an exclusive preview, Microsoft today showed us the new features and enhancements that the next upgrade called Creators Update will come up with. The update brings with it several changes to make your web browsing and gaming experience better.
Creators Update make tab management in Microsoft Edge much easier which allows you to preview visual thumbnails of the open tabs, set them aside instantly, and share the tabs with someone. The update also revisits your privacy with Microsoft services with several improvements. Beam broadcasting technology of the upgrade helps you broadcast gameplay on Windows 10 and Xbox One.
The company also shared that Windows 10 is running on more than 400 million monthly active devices around the world. Here are the new features of Windows 10 Creators Update.
Web browsing with Microsoft Edge becomes simpler
The highlight of the Creators Update is its tab management features designed to eliminate the clutter of the web and the fear of losing tabs. ‘Windows users spend over 50% of their time on the web, but can be derailed by the arduous task of having to sift through countless search results, sites, and the sheer volume of unfamiliar content online,’ says Microsoft.
The revamped tab management allow to preview visual thumbnails of all your open tabs at a glance, and set a group of these tabs aside instantly. The Update will also bring more extensions to the browser, adding new functionality to it. New extensions with this update include Ebates, Intel TrueKey, Read & Write, Ghostery, and RoboForm among others.

You can play Netflix movies and content in 4K Ultra HD resolution with Creators Update. However, it will require 4K-capable screen and Intel KabyLake chipset.
New Night Light reduces the blue light emitted by screen
Night Light feature is one of the cool features that can help you sleep better. With this option, you can reduce the blue light emitted by your screen so when you’re working late your brain is ready to power down for a good night’s sleep.
To try out Night light, simply go to Settings > System > Display. Here you can adjust the color temperature range, schedule specific hours for Night light to be on, and preview the setting before applying it.
Gamers will find a lot to like in the Creators Update
The highlight of Creators Update is its revamped gaming experience. This includes auto-mode app throttling, which gets back the resources allocated to background tasks once you need more power. Gaming now has a dedicated section in Windows System Settings, bringing user-level and system-level gaming features together in one place on your Windows 10 PC.
Now you can record your game on Windows 10 and Xbox One and broadcast it with the new Beam broadcasting technology. You can start Beam broadcasts on Windows 10 PCs by pulling up the Game bar — Windows key + G. This Bar lets you take screenshots and record gaming moments to enhance your gaming experience. On Xbox One, you can also begin streaming directly from inside the Guide.
The Game Mode optimizes your Windows 10 PC to ensure steady gaming experience. This platform feature dedicates more graphics and processor resources to your PC games as per the requirements. To enable Game Mode for your Win32 or UWP game, pull up the Game bar (Windows key + G) and click on the Settings button. Once you’ve enabled your PC to use Game Mode in System Settings, you can apply it to any game.
Creators Update make Troubleshooting way more simplified
One of the top pain areas of computing and web browsing is fixing issues with your system without requiring any external support. Creators Update facelifts the Settings menu by revisiting the troubleshooting options. The update brings with it a simplified listing of issues and ways to fix them without getting into the complexity. Over 50% of issues that Windows users face are because of the lack of basic knowhow to fix them, says Microsoft.
Cortana becomes little more permeating and smarter
The digital assistant from Microsoft gets some helpful features with Creators Update. Cortana can now decipher questions such as ‘How much RAM do I have in my PC?” The assistant can do things better including notifying you about deadlines and helping you pick up where you left off with recent documents and apps.
Cortana can suggest reminders based on the email commitments, support for Outlook and Office 365 accounts. When you lock your computer and return within 30 minutes, Cortana will notify you of your most recent documents and Edge browser history from a previous work session.
You can bring your ideas to life in 3D with Creators Update
With 3D in Windows 10, you can experience and create things in a new dimension using an ecosystem of 3D apps built into your Windows 10 device. The new Paint 3D app embedded inside the Paint app makes it easy to create or modify 3D objects. You can change color and texture, or turn 2D images into 3D objects and then share them on Remix3D or print in 3D.
With our Remix.com community, you can discover millions of objects in the library of 3D objects to customize, edit, and reshare with the community. Using your own 3D printer or a 3D printing service, you can render 3D objects in physical form, so you have things to hold and share, like product prototypes or Minecraft models.
New theme support allows you to personalise your PC
The Creators Update for Windows 10 has new options to customize the look of your Windows 10 devices. The Personalization section under the Settings app allows you choose the entire color spectrum and not the predefined options only. So, when you pick a colour combination that is not helpful (for instance, not readable), Windows will warn you before you confirm the selection.
The Creators Update offers some improvements to help you easily manage your privacy with Windows and other Microsoft services. These improvements include a new Microsoft privacy dashboard for you to see and manage activity data across multiple services, as well as changes to how Windows 10 privacy settings are designed and featured in the Creators Update.
The new update introduces Windows Defender Security Center making it is easier for you to view and control the security protections you choose. The new Family options with enhanced parental control features such as screen time habits, activity reports of your kids’ online activity and more.
The company also showed us the new features of Creators Update aimed at enterprises –including the new dashboard for IT managers to easily manage devices in the network. The most useful of them is the ability for IT decision makers to not only detect the risks in the network but also mitigate them.
