Living a long life is one thing and being content is another. and once you have loved a long enough life to see everything, how the world has progressed and transformed, how social trajectories change and how history is created.

One such history has been created by a man from Sragen in central Java, Indonesia, who is now the oldest man living in the world. If official records are to be believed, Mbah Gotho was born on December 31, 1870, according to the date of birth on his identity card.

The Telegraph, UK, reported that officials at Indonesia’s local record office said “they have finally been able to confirm that remarkable date as genuine”.

According to reports, Gotho has outlived his 10 siblings, his four wives and even his children. He now lives with his grandchildren and two generations after.

In spite of his incredible longevity, Gotho said he has little wish to live any longer and wishes to depart this world soon. “What I want is to die. My grandchildren are all independent,” he told local media.

If the official record is correct, that makes him obviously much older than the verified oldest person in the world ever, a record that belongs to Jeanne Calment of France who lived to be 122.

The local media reported since 1992, Gotho had been wanting to die. He even bought a burial site close to the graves of his children, the report added. “The gravestone there was made in 1992. That was 24 years ago,” one of Gotho’s grandson told.

According Ghoto, that secret behind his long life is nothing by patience. Gotho said: “The recipe is just patience,” quoted The Telegraph, UK.

However, age has been taking a toll on him and these days his declining health has led him to be spoon-fed and bathed as he has become feeble.

Weather or not he is world’s oldest man, his recipe for life is an inspiration for all of us living in today’s world.
