The parent of a Std VII student of Bhayandar-based Abhinav Vidya Mandir has filed a case of extortion against the school authorities in the Thane court. According to complainant Jitesh Vora, the school charges an annual computer fees of Rs720 from parents but does not provide proper bills.
Vora has further alleged that the school authorities are now harassing his child by making him stand outside the classroom for long hours, because of which he has been forced to file another case in the same court.
According to Vora, as per government rules, the school cannot charge any additional fees for sports or computer. When Vora only paid tuition fees and stopped paying the computer fees, the school refused to give his son’s Std VI report card.
Vora said, “When I lodged a written complaint with the Navghar police station, they called the school officials. The school officials accepted that they charged computer fees. When police refused to register my case, I approached the court.”
“When my son entered Std VII, the school didn’t give him a calendar. Now, I have filed another case in the court against the harassment of my son. He is made to stand outside the classroom of long hours, which is a violation of the Right to Education Act. According to government rules, a school is not supposed to charge any fees other than the tuition fees. This school collects computer fees, football fees and Karate class fees.”
Vora even filed a complaint with the education department, but the matter has not come up for hearing yet.
Confirming the case, Vora’s lawyer advocate Ravi Patil said, “The court has sent a notice to the school authorities. The school officials were asked to be present in the court on Thursday, but they refused to accept the notice.”
Meanwhile, despite repeated efforts, school’s executive chairman Mohan Patil remained unavailable for comments.
