Chennai: The MAC Spin Foundation has moved to a picturesque, new premises at Gandhi Nagar Education Society in the Gandhi Nagar area. Also, a pavilion at the venue in honour of industrialist M A M Ramaswamy was unveiled yesterday by the Trustee of MAC Spin Foundation and former BCCI president A C Muthiah and educationist Kumara Rani Meena Muthiah.
The MAC Spin Foundation, which was set up in 1995, has seen leading lights including E A S Prasanna, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ashley Mallett, Terry Jenner and L Sivaramakrishnan among others, pass on skills to the trainees.
The new facility will have four turf wickets and one concrete wicket. About the new facility, A C Muthiah said, “It is a good opportunity for young cricketers at schools nearby to train here.
“We have had the pleasure of hosting Gary Sobers, E A S Prasanna, V V Kumar and among others. Schools that are part of the Gandhi Nagar Society will benefit from this facility. I am thankful to Kumara Rani Meena Muthiah for providing this facility in such a nice locality.”
Former Indian cricketers Bharat Reddy, T A Sekar and B Arun, who were present, inaugurated the nets at the venue.
According to MAC Spin Foundation advisor K L Balaji, former State players Peter Fernandez and S Madhavan are the main coaches. Recalling the visit of the legendary Gary Sobers, he said that his mere presence was a great source of inspiration for the trainees.
