Dona Sarkar, the head of the Windows Insider program, reiterated this message once again only a few minutes ago on Twitter, saying that Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update “is coming soon, we want to make sure with listen to the feedback and release it at the right time.”
While this is further confirmation that Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is on its way, there’s still no information as to when the release could take place, despite the so many rumors pointing to different dates for locked and unlocked devices.
August 16, maybe?
For example, previous reports claimed that Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update was supposed to land on August 9 for unlocked Windows phones while carrier-locked devices were scheduled to get it on August 16.
Unfortunately, however, the first part of this rumor proved inaccurate, as Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is still nowhere to be seen, so now everyone’s hoping for the company to press the famous red button tomorrow.
What’s important to know is that only devices already running Windows 10 Mobile will get the Anniversary Update, so plenty of models powered by Windows Phone are still being left behind. Back in March, when Microsoft started the Windows 10 Mobile rollout, the company decided to upgrade only half of the Windows Phone lineup, flagging the rest of the models as unsupported because of their hardware.
A recently developed third-party application makes it possible to install the most recent Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update builds on almost all Windows Phone devices (except for those with 512 MB of RAM), but it remains to be seen how long this is going to work. In the meantime, the only option is to wait until Microsoft starts the rollout and hope to see this happening as soon as possible.
