HMD Global deserves a pie for itself for rolling out the latest Android Pie update to a number of its Nokia smartphones already. In fact, HMD is the only brand right now to offer Pie on over half a dozen smartphones, which is pretty impressive. The company isn’t planning on resting just yet as it now aims to update its entire portfolio of Nokia smartphones to Android Pie by the first half of 2019.

HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas tweeted yesterday that the company plans to bring the Pie update to the entire Nokia portfolio. In a follow up tweet, Juho confirmed that the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus will get the Android Pie update this week. In yet another tweet, the HMD chief posted an Android Pie update roadmap, revealing the timeline for the Pie update for the remaining Nokia smartphones.

Following the Pie rollout for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus this week, HMD plans to upgrade the Nokia 6. While the company hasn’t mentioned an exact month, the roadmap does confirm that the Nokia 6 will get the Android Pie update in Q1 2019. Additionally, the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1 will also get updated to Android Pie in Q1, while the Nokia 3 will receive the update in early Q2. Notably, HMD will also update the Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 1 Android Go phones to Android Pie in Q1 and Q2, respectively.

The Android Pie (Go edition) update will bring some new features to apps like Google Go, YouTube Go, Files Go and more. The update will also bring faster device boot times, new security features and a dashboard for tracking data consumption, among other things.

HMD Global has upgraded a total of seven Nokia smartphone to Android Pie since September 2018. The Nokia 7 Plus (Review) was the first to receive the Pie update and was followed by the Nokia 6.1 (Review) and Nokia 6.1 Plus (Review) in October. The Nokia 7.1 (Review) received the update in November while the Nokia 5.1 Plus (Review) got update to Pie just before 2018 came to a close. This month, HMD started updating the Nokia 8 (Review) and Nokia 8 Sirocco (Review) to Pie and the rollout is ongoing. The Nokia 8.1 (Review) is currently the only phone to ship with Android Pie out-of-the-box.
