Nvidia’s Shield Tablet K1 is one of the best Android tablet options out there, even though its hardware dates back to 2014. And now the $199 device could get a further lease on life, as Nvidia has announced that an Android 7.0 Nougat update will be rolling out over the next few days.
Nougat comes as part of the tablet’s 5.0 software upgrade, which also includes support for the new controller introduced with the second-generation Shield Android TV. Elsewhere, the tablet gets standard Nougat features like split-screen multitasking, grouped notifications, and an improved Doze mode. That last item might go some way to helping with the device’s standby battery life, which was one of the few knocks against it.
