While 2016 has been a successful year on the professional front for Selena Gomez, it’s been a difficult one on a personal level, too: She’s been battling lupus and its trying side effects that seriously affect her mental health, and she’s taking time off from the public eye as a result.
Still, that didn’t stop her from making an incredibly moving speech at the American Music Awards on November 20, nor did it keep her from sending a heartfelt thank you to her Selenators in the midst of this trying time.
“I have a lot to be thankful for this year..” she writes. “My year has been the hardest yet most rewarding one yet. I’ve finally fought the fight of not ‘being enough’. I have only wanted to reflect the love you guys have given me for years and show how important it is to take care of YOU. By grace through faith. Kindness always wins. I love you guys. God bless.”
Gomez has been upfront with her fans since she announced that she was taking a detour from music to focus on her health back in August, and the tidal wave of support they’ve showed for her recovery is heartwarming, to say the least.
There are no updates regarding when she’ll be working on new music or heading back out on the road, but the important thing is that she’s taking care of herself — and candidly and courageously at that.
