André Fabian Silva Delgado proudly announced the availability for download of the live ISO images of the Parabola GNU/Linux-libre 2016.07.27 operating system based on Arch Linux.
It’s been a long time since we last heard something from the Parabola GNU/Linux-libre project, whose main design goal is to provide an a spin on the popular and lightweight Arch Linux distribution powered by the GNU/Linux-libre kernel. This automatically translates to the fact that it’s a 100% free computer operating system.
Parabola GNU/Linux-libre is also popularly known as the unofficial “libre” variant of Arch Linux, and the latest version, 2016.07.27, includes all the latest security updates and software releases that have been published in the main repositories since the previous ISO refresh.
According to the release notes, Parabola GNU/Linux-libre 2016.07.27 is distributed in three editions, Main (basic version for installation and recovery), MATE (built around the MATE desktop environment), and TalkingParabola (adapted for blind and visually impaired users). It includes packages optimized for both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i686) processors.

Release highlights of the Parabola GNU/Linux-libre 2016.07.27 release include the LightDM display manager as default login screen, better reading and write permissions for the Home directory, as well as the addition of the octopi-cachecleaner, octopi-notifier and octopi-repoeditor packages for the Octopi graphical package manager.
Among other improvements, we can mention that sudo is now available by default to let users that are part of the wheel group to execute any command, the GRUB bootloader theme was changed to grub2-theme-gnuaxiom, and several new packages were added, including p7zip, unar, zip, unzip, Linphone, qTox, and mate-extra.
Last but not least, the foomatic-db-nonfree-ppds package was blacklisted because it’s not free, and the Rust and Cargo packages have been whitelisted.
